Creativity is Growing

It was a great week for creativity, our yearly Mustang party, San Dieguito High Alumni get-together was wonderful. Great to see friends from 40 years ago, some who did not attend the 40 reunion joined us.
Our hostesses and Host, Janine and Greg asked me to present the Yogi Surf Crossing
T-shirts and it was a hit, did a few cash sales and used the PayPal on the spot. Yesterday the greeting cards arrived; they are so cheerful, looking forward in sharing those at the Holiday Bazaar. I posted the card on Facebook and receive compliments and cash, great combination.

UpDate:

After 30 hours creating the mold for Ocean Dancer II, tomorrow I will fine-tune it, then apply many coat of silicone!

Thanks to my creative friends, Tish and Dusty, they connected me to Bear-Designz, a huge screen printing and four-color process “Print-on-Demand, facility. The t-shirts are ordered, regular short & long sleeve, for men and tank top V-style T’s for woman. I learned to set-up an
“Etsy Shop” ETSY ~ Judy Salinsky

and within the first five hours received two orders from Mustang classmates.

Did a practice run on the booth setup for the Holiday Bazaar sponsored be San Dieguito Artist Guild and Off Track Gallery.

Yogi Surf Crossing

The “Painting” of Yogi Surf Crossing was an amazing success; creating five original oil paintings gave me the idea of creating wearable art of our icon in Encinitas, California.
Perfect conditions for Swami’s Surfer
West Swell
Breaks at knee high to double overhead
Who could ask for more in Southern California?
Plus, an amazing icon on of SRF on the cliffs;

Yogi Surf Crossing has a spiritual feel, which brings peace to our town.

I have learned to create "buttons" with the help of PayPal. If you are interested in purchasing a T-shirt or Tote bag, please order at the bottom of the image. Greeting cards will be available for the holidays.

If you live any where near Encinitas, stop by and say Hi. The t-shirt will be on sale and if we run out, Print-on-Demand is the way of the future. We call in the order, t-shirts are ready within 7 days! But please don't wait until December to order for the holidays. I won't promise to meet the deadline of late shopper. I was in retail, don't dance to that tune any longer. :-)

Thanks for you support! All monies goes toward the making of Ocean Dancer II

Ocean Dancer Complete

Ocean Dancer Complete
I received an email from the San Diego Botanical Gardens, formerly Quail Gardens in Encinitas. Learning the dates January 2015 to apply for the Sculpture Garden Exhibit is very exciting for me, as I imagine Ocean Dancer swimming through the “Underwater Succulent” gardens. I will be visiting the gardens to determine the size of the public art piece.
Finish it, May 2015

Next email was sent to the City of Encinitas:
Proposed art installation bronze sculpture that is educational, yet represents this creature’s place in nature for the city of Encinitas. Dimensions of public art piece would be determined on the availability of space, installation all professionally engineered by Brandon Roy, founder of California Academy of Sculpture.

Also, I may have a buyer for the prototype! The buyer suggested a light patina. That is no problem; we will do a light sand blast and reapply the light patina.

Swimming Forward

It is difficult to put into words, the excitement I am feeling over this little creation.
Spending the extra hours smoothing out Ocean’s Dancers skin really paid-off. Nick mentioned that the casting “popped” right off and no divots. That’s what I personally call the small imperfections which may occur, if the clay mold is not touched up. There were a few bubbles which were welded and removed, adjustment on her tail and fin were made.

The “sea-foam” green stone will be the support along with the sea grass. Polishing, sand-blasting and the Patina will finish her off. The response has given me such pride, each ray will have their own movement and grace.

Picking out Base

After the cleaning process of sand blasting, sanding,
picking out ceramic by hand, this is the end result.

Dipping Process

The wax mold is dipped into “Slurry” which is a thin mixture of an insoluble substance, as cement or clay, it is the first “Dip” before the sand. There is 3 to five coarseness of sand and after each dip; another layer of sand is applied. Usually, 2-4 times in each “Sand box”.
It takes days between each dip to dry, depending upon the weather.
“Ocean’s Dancer” is taking about six days to complete its cycle, then
we will have a ceramic shell.

The shell is where the molten bronze is poured.
